  1. The Lok Sabha passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Mar-riages) Bill 2017 making instant triple talaq illegal with up to three years in jail for the husband. Replying to a debate on the bill, Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad rejected the Opposition charge that the bill has been brought in haste. The Minister said the practice of triple talaq has been curbed and regulated even in many Islamic countries and a secular country like India will have to ensure justice to Muslim women. The bill will now be sent to the Rajya Sabha for adoption before it is forwarded to the President for signing it into a law.
     
  2. Mr Vijay Rupani was sworn in as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat along with 19 Min-isters, including Nitin Patel, Deputy Chief Minister, after the BJP’s victory in the recent Assembly elections. The ruling party won the elections for the sixth consecutive time.
     
  3. Mr Jai Ram Thakur was sworn in as the 14th chief minister of Himachal Pradesh after the Bharatiya Janata Party wrested power in the assembly elections. He took oath along with 11 other ministers at a cere-mony held at the Ridge ground in Shimla.
     
  4. India successfully carried out an interceptor missile test, validating the reliability of its two layered Ballistic Missile Defence. The indigenously developed supersonic interceptor missile is capable of destroying any incoming enemy ballistic missile at low altitude. The interceptor was engaged against a Prithvi missile launched from Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha.
     
  5. Government will open more AYUSH Universities and colleges across the country in coming years to promote integrated health care system. This was stated by AYUSH Minister Shripad Yesso Naik in Lok Sabha ,while replying to supplementaries.Mr. Naik said, his ministry has approved 67 units of public health outreach activities under National AYUSH Mission to Kerala.
     
  6. Two-time Olympic-medallist Sushil Kumar and five other male wrestlers qualified for next year's Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.
     
  7. Ace Indian marksman Jitu Rai won the Men's 50 metre pistol national title, setting a new record score of 233 at the 61st National Shooting Cham-pionships in Thiruvananthapuram. Rai's score of 233 was a new record in the finals of the event. Rai also won the team gold in the event combin-ing with Jai Singh and Omprakash Mitherwal for a total of 1658, besting Team Air Force, who managed a total of 1626.
     
  8. Indian boxers claimed three gold, a silver, and a bronze medal at the Galym Zharyl-gapov Boxing Tournament in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. In the event, the country's Gold Medal winners were K Shyam Kumar in 49kg, Naman Tanwar in 91kg and Satish Kumar in the +91kg category claimed gold medals. To add to it, the19-year-old Tanwar was also adjudged the best boxer of the tournament.
  9. Indian chess ace Viswanathan Anand won the World Rapid Chess Championship in Riyadh. Anand stunned World champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway and went on to bag the top position with ten and a Half Points at the end of the 15th and final round.

  10. The eighteenth Meeting of the Financial Stability and Develop-ment Council (FSDC) was held in New Delhi under the Chair-manship of the Union Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley as pre-Budget 2018-19 consultations with the financial sector regula-tors. The meeting was attended by RBI Governor, Finance Sec-retary and other top officers of the Finace Ministry along with the heads of SEBI and IRDAI.
     
  11. The Lok Sabha has passed the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill -2017. The bill prohibits certain persons from submitting a resolution plan in case of defaults. These include willful defaulters and promoters or management of the company having an outstanding non-per-forming debt for over a year. The Bill also has provisions to bar the sale of property of a defaulter to such persons during liquidation.
