Group Tasks

Man is social animal and he usually moves in groups everywhere. Armed Forces too consist of large groups of people, who work for achievement of common group goals. It is ideal therefore, that candidates, who opt to join the defense forces as officers, should be tested in groups, in order to assess their suitability to function as a member of a team. In Services Selection Boards (SSBs), Group Testing Officers (GTOs) give structured group tasks to candidates and watch their performance while they function in a group. These tasks are leaderless group tasks, where no one in the group is officially designated a leader. While members of a group are working for a common goal in leadership vacuum, one who displays natural leadership qualities, like Social Adjustment, mental and physical stamina, good communication skill and power to convince others is considered a right candidate for the Defence Forces.
