Picture Perception and Discussion Test
The second test involves writing of a story on one given picture (As in TAT), narrating the same individually and finally a Group Discussion where in the candidates (Between 15 to 20) after hearing each others story are required to discuss and formulate one common story. The time for discussion is about 15-20 minutes. Writing, narration and discussion have to be done in English. As one can see from the test, candidates communication skills will come into play and those not able to speak will automatically have minimal chances of passing. The candidates are advised to practice speaking in English to improve their chances of passing. Only about 30% candidates get screened in.
CONDUCT OF PPDT
After initial briefing the candidates are shown one picture which is black and white and hazy. The Picture is shown for 30 seconds. There after 4 minutes and 30 seconds are given to the candidate to write the story. All guidelines of TAT as given in Psychology section will apply.
The candidates are given an answer sheet as shown below. The candidates are required to give following details in the box on the left side:
1. Number of persons
2.Their Gender (for each individual)
3.Their Age(- do -)
4.Their Mood (- do -)
Write what is happening in the picture now.
The story is written in the Blank space below.
Make sure that your narration of the story is top class as this is the first impression NOT only on the assessors but also on the other candidates. The narration will be good if you practice speaking in English regularly. Be loud and clear and don’t jumble. Look at other candidates and not the assessors. If narration goes well you would automatically be in high level of confidence as the G.D portion will generally be good.
• GROUP DISCUSSION
All suggestion given to you in the G.D section will apply, so read those. The difference is that the purpose of the G.D have is to arrive at one common story. Don’t forget this aspect, Your aim should always be to take the discussion towards this aim of one common story. Therefore, you don’t have to keep pressing on your story. A give and take attitude will help tremendously. You don’t have to keep speaking all the time, let it be sufficient, but when you speak you should have a positive tone and you should speak with authority and logic. Address as many participants as possible and do not get centric towards one or two persons. If you don’t speak, you DON’T stand a chance. The noise level and shouting would be high, you have to be smart enough to be heard. Refer to guidelines on G.D.
REMEMBER SCREENING TEST IS NOT A MATTER OF LUCK AS SOME PEOPLE SUGGEST. TO BE SURE PLEASE PRACTICE SPEAKING IN ENGLISH. FOLLOW YOUR HEART IN WRITING THE STORY AND FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCT. DURING THE G.D. IF NOT SURE STILL, DO TAKE GUIDANCE FROM THE RIGHT PLACE.
